Ciao! I’m Laura, a Rome-based freelance journalist with a decade of experience writing about travel, art and culture, architecture and design, lifestyle, and food and wine. I’ve been to 50 countries on six continents, but Italy was always the one that kept me coming back. I’ve lived here since 2019 and have traveled all over the country, from the Dolomites in the north to Sicily in the south.

Get to know Laura

  • I actually met my husband while traveling solo in Rome. He was a waiter at the hotel where I was staying and we chatted every morning when I went to the restaurant for breakfast. On my last morning, he brought me a cappuccino with a pink rose on the side. I was heading down to Sorrento and invited him to meet me there. He did—and the rest is history.

  • I have two favorite films, and they’re inextricably linked: La Dolce Vita and La Grande Bellezza. The latter, which won many awards including an Oscar and Golden Globe, is contemporary filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino’s modern-day take on the former, Federico Fellini’s 1960 masterpiece starring Marcello Mastroianni as a jaded journalist searching for meaning amid the decadence and decay of post-war Rome. To me, each film represents the Eternal City in all its complexity and contradictions.

  • History. Growing up, my dad would read me books about ancient Greek and Roman myths and legends. I guess those lessons stuck! To this day, I’m fascinated by all history, but especially ancient history. I certainly ended up in the right place.

    From there, you'll be able to TKTKTKTKTTK ask questions and get feedback/advice. There is no set structure for how you and your Advisor use your time together. Consultations are meant to be collaborative and tailored to your needs and taste.

    Once the time is up, SoloTrvlr’s Admin will close the chat. You’ll receive a TK within 48 hours. 

  • You can ask anything travel-related, from whether (and where) it’s safe to walk alone at night to practicalities like where to buy tampons (and how to ask for them!) Need dining advice? Your Local Advisor will share her go-to neighborhood spots and steer you to a hyper-local Italian cooking class taught by a beloved nonna. She’ll also be quick to jump in and let you know if something you’re considering doing is overrated—and tell you what to do instead.

  • No problem! If you need more time with your Local Advisor, just contact us via WhatsApp or by email and we’ll help you book a follow-up session. 

  • Our Advisors do their best to keep their calendars up to date, however, if you would like to book further in advance (i.e. upcoming months where an Advisor hasn't added her availability yet) or none of the listed times work for you, please email us at support@solotrvlr.com and we’ll work with you to find an alternate time.
